The Most Unforgiven And Stupid Mistake I’d Made On Blog Expansion Decision

by Hamdani Amin on April 6, 2009

mistake

I am not embarrassed to tell you this experience as it’s was the case.  Last month, I’d tried to expand my blog business by creating a new blog, Technopreneur.info.  Although the project does take off, but the attention span or to be exact the resources to manage this new blog were not there.

At the same time, my main blog, streamxy.com, become unattended and the ranking start falling like rock bottom (at the time of writing, Alexa, 203099).  I had got an from one of my friend the main website was no longer accessible – talk about adding the insult to the whole scenario – the whole situation remained unattended for a month.

However, I did learn a few lesson from this whole thing.

Think about your reader first than your ambitious ideas second

In any business, your customers come first and your ambitious business ideas come second.  If your ambitious business ideas sidelining your current customers then it’s a bad judgment call.  This is what happen with the technopreneur.info project.

The whole project purpose suppose to build a repository of to help aspiring but to create such material and to fill-up this repository need a proper plan and the most important ingredient, attention and energy.  The last two, I don’t have and thus explain my next point.

Access your available resources

Do you have the necessary resources to pull through the whole exercise?  What we meant by necessary resources that include the following things:

  1. Team of writer or your own time to write.
  2. Good and fresh content for the new blog
  3. Enough time and effort to market the new blog

If you don’t have these three ingredient you’re most likely be consumed by the new project until fail to see other important thing.  This bring me to the last important point.

Ask this question, am I being too ambitious?

Are you being too ambitious? Of course being ambitious is good but if you fail to deliver as promise then is very bad. On this exercise, what I learn was, assess your resources before your embark on new thing, beside it’s business.

Finish what you have started and be quick or else you just wasting your time

Well, finally it’s true.  Once you started something, finish it.  No matter what it takes to finish just finish. Just launch it, of course it not perfect but you don’t you just wasted your time’s  spent on the project.

You may have experience similar situation like me perhaps you like to share.

You have very nice advice here. Don’t be a perfectionist if your main priority is to get things done.
