In this post Tamal Anwar from BlogKori.com explain the strategies on being a power and driving massive traffic to your blog. I mention and quote Tamal Anwar blog post or report in my blog post in the domain of stumbleupon.  This is his first guest post (on-loan) writer at my blog and like he mentioned in this post, maybe an extended stay of regular contributor.

Stumble Upon is a social bookmarking site like Digg, or Delicious. What makes SU different from others is that they don’t count number of user votes, they count the quality of the submission and stumble votes (Thumbs up!) Another thing that makes this site unique is the steady flow of traffic. Yes, SU will send you traffic for content for days, weeks or even a month that no other in the web does!

By the way, I’m Tamal Anwar from BlogKori.com and I share my experience about how to create a better blog to my readers. My friend Hamdani Amin asked me to write a guest post for you all and if you liked it, I’ll write more here.

If you still don’t know about SU or have an account but don’t know how to use it then fear not, I’m here to guide you. SU is giving me a steady flow of traffic. When I was digging my articles, the visitors of each article were average like 60-100 but since I started to use SU, this rate increased at 800-900 per article and most of the time the total traffic ended at 1200-1400 unique visitors. -That’s a great thing for a new blogger.

Register – Download – Set options.

Go to StumbleUpon.com and register for a free account. Set your options, create an interesting profile and add a nice photo. Download the SU toolbar. Set which topics you want to explore (must be the topics you are blogging)

Stumble pages Up and Down.

The toolbar allows you to stumble across sites by clicking the “Stumble” button. Now it’s not a random page, it’s a page submitted earlier by another user(s). The mistake that most of the do (even I did!) that they start submitting all of their . Please don’t do that, I’ll come to that part later.

Discover blog, pages and people

Stumble different sites and read those . I found tons of great quality articles and people. If you liked a blog personally, add it to your bookmarks or subscribe to the RSS feeds. Connect with the author and read the blog regularly -just like you found a blog from Google.

Add friends, get fans and connect

When you stumble, you’ll find lots of people who share the same interest. Add those people as your friend. To get fans and let people to add you, you have to stumble regularly. The more often you use SU -the more you’ll get noticed.

Stumble your articles

Here’s the interesting part. After using and building a profile on SU + some friends, now you can submit your articles for some results. Please stumble only good quality articles from your blog, not every article. If you think there’s an older article for stumble, skip it and try to submit the recent one.

Submit on weekdays (Mon-Fri) and in the morning (Depending on your reader’s time zone) -make sure the readers get it in the morning which will ensure better results. After stumbling your article, you have to market it. Send the page to some of your active stumble friends with the toolbar. If you’re sending the page for the first time, add a special message like this: “Hey Hamid, I’ve created this article which you’ll find interesting to read, please give me a Thumbs Up if you liked it. Ask me anytime to return the favor to you.”

Now please focus that I’ve requested to read the article, not stumble. I asked to stumble it if he liked that page. Then I said that he’ll get the return too if he helps me. This personal message is required for every people you connect with and ask for a stumble. But when you’ll establish a trust, just send it with no message, he’ll stumble, review, comment and promote for you.

Your SU authority

The more and more you stumble, the more your stumble quality will improve. You’ll see the difference over time. You can increase your authority by asking your friends to thumbs up your SU profile. This way your submissions will get more juice. As you’ll send requests, you’ll receive them too. Make sure you do a good stumble depending on the article and the relationship with your friend.

Submission frequency

If you write good articles every 2-3 days, then submit your articles in that frequency. 10:1 is a good frequency between your post and regular stumbles. Please note that SU focuses on the frequency of blog updates and the frequency of submission from one URL. If you think that you’re stumbling too much of your articles then take a help from your friend to stumble it.

Letting others to discover your content

Choose some of your active SU friends to discover your page. Choose those people, who have 100+ subscribers, it will ensure a better result. Go to their profile and drop the message asking for discovering the page. You can also use email to connect him directly.

Make it a part of your browsing habit

Use the Stumble Upon toolbar to discover and rate the pages you like. The send button is a great way to share good contents with your friends. I use the “Send” button a lot as a messaging service. In Christmas and New Year, I used the send button to send festive pages and e-cards to my friends. Love SU and the pages you browse and you’ll easily create a great profile.

Ask for a stumble in the page

At the end of your article, ask for a stumble from your readers. Like I use: “If you liked this page and want others to read it too, then please help me with a Thumbs Up! in Stumble Upon.” Connect with me on SU too, tamalds.stumbleupon.com.

If you want anything further to know about this topic, then leave a comment with your question or suggestion.

This post has also got popular with SU. When I saw the SU page of this article I found lots of reviews and over 41+ Thumbs Ups! Two interesting reviews here,

onreact-com.stumbleupon.com said with a positive review,
“Sorry, a crucial part of this is wrong. You should NOT submit your own articles on StumbleUpon, especially not as frequently as this post suggests.”

@onreact-com: SU says you to submit quality articles that is worthy for the community. If you produced a good article, then you should submit it on SU. Without self promoting, you didn’t had the chance to read this article.

The frequency should be determined with your usage of Stumble. I know lots of people who stumble for hours. For them submitting everyday from one website is technically valid.

ZachariaW.stumbleupon.com with a negative review said,
“Poor advice on how to take advantage of SU, a community site, not an advertising network.”

@ZachariaW: SU is a social bookmarking site and it’s a way to promote your site for free + the results are longer lasting. If Stumble takes money to send you visitors(paid stumbles) then why shouldn’t we use it as a form of viral promotion?

The good thing about your information is that it is explicit enough for students to grasp. Thanks for your efforts in spreading academic knowledge. Regards.

As a follow-up, I would refrain from asking for a thumbs up, only a review. SU is banning people who ask for thumbs up on their own posts.
