I recently read a post at Problogger on being no 1. One comment does interest me so much from,
Nice Tips Mr. Darren.
But I would Really Like to know what’s ” Being No.1 ” means ?
What I mean is,
* Is that person’s Blog No.1 in Search Results for a set of keywords
* Is the Blog ‘the most visited blog in his niche’ ?
* Is the Blog most loved among other Bloggers of the same niche (just like problogger) ?
* Or does the blog earn maximum revenue in its Niche ?
So, I would love to know What does ” Being No:1 ” means ?

The Concept Of Horizontal and Vertical in Blogging
Blog can expand in many way, either horizontal or vertical. What Darren means in his comment is the owner should expand horizontal.
Horizontal expansion
Horizontal expansion in blog means your touch other blog areas in your niche. For example if all the while you had been writing about how to use pay per click advertising (“PPC”) like adword, bidvertiser or similar program to make money, no you look into affiliate marketing program as another way to earn money.
In the case of Darren suggestion, if all the while you use blog as a tool to present your case now it’s time to use buletin board as a tool to present your case. Another way of looking it also, from marketing point of view, if all the while you use social networking e.g. stumbleupon or facebook, now let use forum or other media.
In short, when you use horizontal approach you are broaden you scope of reach or topic.
Vertical expansion
Vertical expansion in blog mean using the same platform but go deaper. Say for example all the while you use blogging to promote your products now you use microblogging e.g. Twitter or Pluck.
Another good example say you use Facebook to keep intouch with your business and social friends but use stumble upon for online bookmarking. Both are social media and if you use them to market your product, you might install StumbleUpon application at Facebook. By doing this you are promoting both ways.
So back to the question
So what does No 1 means, I will look both from the horizontal and vertical perspective. From horizontal perspective, you should be well know and source of reference not just from blogging community but from forum or buletin board community also. Your blog represent source of reference on a particular topic that transcend method of delivery. So far I found none.
You reach to be no 1 because your talk only on one particular topic and only that. If you talk about how to make money from blogging, you will touch how and where to find and make money from blogging. That it and none other topic. So far I found none but many came close (and yes, not even Problogger).
Well, at least that how I would define No.1? Maybe you have other definition?
