I just read about this story about a woman who lose $400,000 to “Nigerian Scam”. I guess while a lot of people already know how the “Nigerian Scam” work and why most of us just hit the delete button, this woman from Oregon still fall victim to this scheme.

I like to quote the word from the undercover investigator about this scheme

“They are so desperate to recoup their losses with the big payout, they descend into a vicious cycle of sending money in hopes the false promises will turn out to be real.”

Today let look into how we can use this tactics in a reverse manner.

How to run a (reverse) Scheme On Your

I am not going to teach you to be bad. But I am going to share with you how to run a reverse Scheme effect from your using a pillar articles.  In Nigerian scheme, you lost money but in this scheme, you will gain a lot.

Write a pillar articles and then write a follow-up articles

In Nigerian Scheme, you were trick to send money in advance in the hope for bigger payment. So in a reverse scheme, you will write a short pillar articles and write a follow-up articles that explain about the pillar articles in more depth and angle.

For each pillar articles you will normally have part 1 until part n (n mean any number).   A follow-up articles should be a spin-off from the main articles.  This spin off articles will also have part 1 until n.

What will determine the success of this reverse scheme?

The pillar articles should not be more than 3 part.  If your need to run more than 3 part, than the pillar articles need to have a central theme.  Each sub-theme will become their own pillar articles which can be develop as a spin off articles.  But don’t over do it.

How do you know you had wrote a good pillar articles?

I suggest you look into Yaro guide on how to write a pillar articles and Wakish on the same topic.  In my opinion, two best characteristic of a pillar articles will be:

  • Is a lengthy article which clearly, concisely and deeply explains the subject matter.  Some of the topic suggested by Yaro were,
    • How-to articles
    • Definition articles
    • Argument and theory articles
    • White paper approach articles
  • Your post should have a potential as an evergreen post.  Some discussion about this topic (what an evergreen post) revolve around the issue whether to put date or not in a blog post.

Based on this criteria you have about 25 blogging styles you can practice or use.  Was there anything left?

This post still lack of your contribution, perhaps you find it useful or you can promote it in your own way and give a Thumb-up or some Digg.

While Nigerian Scams are done to dupe others into sending more and more money in return for that million dollars, writing a pillar post to get others coming back for the sequel and more is a good way to gain real traffic.

That’s some blog title! I guess you got our attention… I agree you need to promote your best content by planning to build on it (part 1 of n) or following up on a post that delivers lots of organic search results. Unfortunately I have a pillar post on color psychology made some time ago but have not completed the part 2 research! I guess I need to be more focused — lol. A post may fit Yaro’s guide (in your mind) but I think you know you’re written one when you get feedback and vies long after it’s published.

I like your idea of turning something bad to something good!
The idea of dragging traffic to your blog somehow the same with what the Nigerian scam use for dragging money. However, you really have to write GREAT post of pillar article as a great reward from Nigerian scam.

It’s one interesting thing you mentioned. It takes a lot more brain to create a scam and to make it full proof. Why not take advantage of those scam ideas? Thanks and a well written one :)
