Comment Policies serves several purpose:

An example of a full pleade comment policies can be found at Pure Blogging. The have a very comprehensive comment policy. In case you need to write one, The Blog Herald, had made some outlines on how to design you own comment policies. From the article, the few ruiles that need to be inside your comment policies. I like to highlight some of the example comment ground rules to consider when writing your blog’s Comments Policy:
- Comment Form Guidelines: All information must entered into comment form must be real and verifiable.
- Email Privacy: Email addresses are required but not for the purpose of lead collection. All information will not be share and treated with highly strict confidential. This need to mentioned clearly.
- Language and Manners: A comment can be consider a two way conversation. Therefore mind your language. In appropriate comment that does not add value to the conversation will be consider spam and will be deleted.
- How The Blogger Will Respond: Sometimes I respond to comments directly via email. This may not the best way to respond to comments (which I will stop from now on). You will only respond direct on the blog.
- No Personal Attack Comments Permitted: You may question or argue the content, but not attack the blogger, nor any other commenters. As the blog owner you can decide to ban this commenters from your blog.
- All Rights Reserved: The blog owner, administrator, contributor, editor, and/or author reserve the right to edit, delete, move, or mark as spam any and all comments as well as the right to block access to any one or group from commenting or from the entire blog. When this happen, the blog owner will be hole harmless from the commenters action.
- Trackbacks will be treated as a comments.
So have you done your comment policy or currently thinking one, what were they? Was there any possible ground rules not covered in this post?

I’ve considered a policy in the past, but I always thought that it might be considered presumptuous. Thank you for the advice. It does make sense – just not sure how to implement it.

Yeah having comment policies are not only a pain to implement but they can leave a sour taste in the mouth of your readers. some of the best debates on sites come from the comments left.

A good comment policy will definitely help reduce some bad comments on your site, but unfortunately, does not stop the majority of spammers, who use bots and scripts and do not actually read any of your site anyway. I wish a policy could stop them.
