We already know that there are literally hundreds of millions of blogs out there and more starting every day. In order to able to stand out, you need to capitalize on what makes you unique. At this point, every blogger have their own unique criteria. This is what we called “USP” short for unique selling proposition.
So what your USP. I can think of a few which could be either your unique point of view, writing style. Even your own self, your personal stories or the way you shape your message.
There’s just one problem with all of that. You’ll be revealing too much about yourself, what you know and to many people your deepest secret of which you call, your trade secrets. So how do you feel? It’s terrifying.
It sounds great and idealistic to just be completely yourself online, to strip naked on your blog and hope people will love you. The rule of engagement for promoting any brand is to be one with the brand (like, to be one with the force). Although it’s not just scary, it’s also a good way to give yourself a ferocious case of writer’s block when everything you know you had already told other peoples. Although not to mention making life easier for the occasional wacko or stalker (if your blog about personal life) to threaten your very existence.
When Seth Godin create squidoo, he have this idiom that everyone is an expert of something. Your life, you experience, you writing style, you ownself; all this shape your blog.
You probably have your own version of nude and revealing nude (both full or partial) when came to blogging. Dooce version will make me anxious if everyone approach their blog like that. My friend at stumbleupon, mywifequitherjob (just look at the username) blog about them starting their business together as husband and wife make me slightly anxious (of course motivated) and this one profile, jennymanio, surely off the chart, it’s feeling and emotion purification and connectivity.
I think I prefer nudity Godin version. You should decide how much you want to write about you, your knowledge, your brand and your product.
So how do you know either you have a partial nudity or full? Write the blog. If the blog your wrote goes over the line, sleep on it first (one or two nights) than edit it or just publish it. Either way you had made a consious decision. Work out what you will and won’t talk about, in writing. Perhaps certain experience or fact better left untold. You draw the line.
The first rule of professional communication is:always tell you own story.
Remember Wisteria Lane. Everyone know everyone secret but everyone told someone their own version of the secret. Until the true secret revealed, no body know what real. If someone already know the truth then you already have the answer to, does marilyn monroe a spy?.
You maybe ready to unveil yourself but other people may not be as ready to unveil themselves to you. This explain why people use pseudonyms to change the identity either you or other people.
Nobody know Norma Jeane Mortenson. But everybody know Marilyn Monroe. So if using pseudonyms give your courage to let your readers to see through your blog, go for it.
Well, you might have you own rules of engagement when come to presenting information in your blog, what your?

Interresting topic! Thank you for posting this Hamdani. But let me correct a little bit… I think ‘UPS’ should be ‘USP’ (Unique Selling Preposition).
Anyway I love how you choose your word of ‘nude’ in term of expressing yourself through blog. I happen to launch a new series in my blog called “Letter from a Friend” which exactly a series of post about ‘undressing’ myself. Thumbs up!

This is something different, there are people who like to reveal themselves infront of the internet and some people who want to keep them hidden with a user name and a avatar. I’m on that side where I want to reveal myself for branding my name on the internet but still there are things about me which no one knows.

Personal branding is all about controlling the impression you give to other people, and that’s the thing people need to be learning how to do with so many networks around and growing.
