When the new Macbooks and Macbook Pros were first dissembled it was pointed out that the chipset looked like it could handle 8 GB or ram. While Apple says the capacities for each top out at 4GB, Chip supplier Ramjet has tested and officially confirmed that the new MacBooks can support 6GB RAM via one 2GB module and one 4GB module.
But why not eight? 8GB works but there is a few issues. While the reason OS X has issues over 6 GB hasn’t yet to be determined, a fix from Apple could make it possible for the new Macbook and Macbook Pros to handle a whopping 8 GB.
What the options?
You have 2 options above 4GB:
- 6GB (1x2GB/1x4GB)
- 8GB (2x4GB) (Currently experiencing some issues with MBP running 8GB, 2x 4GB)
4GB 1066 SO-DIMM paired with a 2GB combo will set you back around $675 using Ramjet memory module since the cost for 4GB module already price at $600.
What is Microsoft respond?
Microsoft spokespeople claiming that the new Macbook will be overpriced, underspec and locked down. The company can back their claim with charts comparing the feature lists of similarly priced Windows and Mac notebooks on which they accused Apple high pricing tactics as an “Apple Tax.” While what they claim is nothing new nor correct, it does make their claim something that is interesting to read.

I think MS just jealous of what they can’t do – getting more money from the similar product
Well, they could if they do as good as Apple…
Just another comparison, MS sold 1000 items with profit 100/item while Apple sold 100 items with profit 1000/item. Come on guys, stop whining…
