Turn Your Tweet Into Money

Twitter has been late in the race to monetize their service.  But of course, there is no shortage of ideas from third parties to monetize Twitter.

Recently I meet with this Magpie, much like RSS-based advertising which offers to pay you for advertisements that run in the midst of your tweet stream.

“You allow us to twitter in your name. Thus, it’s primarily your followers who’ll see the magpie-tweets. We’re targeting them, not you.”

You could run the Magpie estimator to see how much money you could earn. I stand to make an additional 193.81 Euros a month – roughly $246 US a month.Now that would be more than enough to pay for my hosting account.  I could get afford to rent a server for that amount.

The inclusion of advertisement stream in your normal stream already raise some concern on the noisy level of Twitter.  Magpie will definitely make Twitter more noisy.

Magpie is promoting the service as a way to get into the tweet stream of “popular twitterers.” One has to wonder, if those Twitter users – especially those who are already seeing value in their Twitter use – are going to be willing to trade their influence for cash.
