PC World conclude their observation on “Technorati: State of the Blogosphere 2008” as:
While women bloggers are more likely than men to be personal bloggers, they are more sophisticated about advertising, the report noted and are twice as likely as men to sell through an ad network and more likely to have affiliate links. They are also more likely than male bloggers to link to other blogs, get listed on a blog directory and produce content for other blogs.
How successful are woman in managing their blogs’?
Based on Technorati findings:
- Women blogger are more sophisticated about advertising:
- Twice as likely to sell through an ads network (16% vs 7%)
- And more likely to have an affiliate link (41% vs 32%)
- 36% had converted business leads from their blogs (vs 27% of men)
77% of man blogger earned an average of $19,000 annually as compared to 66% for women blogger. If we compared this, vis-a-vis, in term of equal size both man and women, than man percentage will fall to 39%. This taken into consideration the women population size in this study equivalent to 50% of man.
I think this trend is apparent every where (again if your compared vis-a-vis). In my opinion, there is some generalization in term of survey population breakdown, 70-30, which brought us into our next point.
Will the percentage gap narrow down?
A recent survey found out that the gap of internet usage is narrowing down. The Gen-Y-er women, aged 18-24 spend 86% online compared to only 80% man in the same age group. These figure consistent through out many research even for married woman with more Gen-Y participate in blogging. So we should expect more women on the top 10% earning bracket.
How far this influence the blogsphere?
I think we should expect to see more conversational, personal and direct to the heart approach dominate the blogsphere in next year, 2009 study. That will be interesting to see and wait.
