Web analytics company SiteMeter on 14 September 2008, has rolled out a major update to its free and premium web stats tracking service. But not more than 48 hours, the company had to revert back to the old classic look, in response to the overwhelmingly negative reception this redesign has received.
The new version of SiteMeter is full of new charts and graphs that let you see how a web site is performing at a glance. The update is also supposed to do a better job of accurately tracking unique visits and page views.
No word on how much time and money they’ve spent on the “upgrade.” While the new service certainly offers more features than the old version, reports take longer to load, they’re not as simple to read as the old versions, and their window widget didn’t work.
SiteMeter had post an apology at their weblog and would like to invite participant to be a BETA TESTER in future development. In the near term, SiteMeter will be “evaluating the performance issues and feedback from our community”.
That’s why changes sometimes is not a good thing. If is ain’t broken, don’t fix it. Samuel had pointed out a very good reason when you should consider to redesign your website. I think SiteMeter fall for the very last reason.
If you thinking of redesign your blog, what will be your most compelling reason?
