WordPress release their latest fix ver 2.6.2. on September 8. I don’t feel the urge to upgrade my WordPress 2.6 to 2.6.1 because they advice me so and I also very comfortable with it.
But since I plan to use “open registration” in the future and for once, for not so obvious reason, the dashboard notice to upgrade to 2.6.2. Well, this is the ordeal of upgrading from 2.6 and some advice that NOT included in the detail upgrading step provided by WordPress.
If you read The Upgrade WordPress Extended, Step 4: Deactivate ALL your Plugins
“In you Administration panel, under the Plugins choice, deactivate any Plugins. Because of the changes to WordPress, some Plugins may conflict with upgrade process.”
And further on Step 7: Delete the old WordPress files
DO NOT DELETE these folders and files:
Delete these Files and Folders:
- wp-content/cache folder;You only see this folder if you are upgrading FROM WordPress 2.0
Well, if you used WP-Cache 2.0, I found out that this Plugin change you wp-config.php by adding the following in wp-config.php
define(‘WP_CACHE’, true); //Added by WP-Cache Manager
and under the wp-content directory, a directory call “cache” is created and will be call and link by this instruction. So if you use this plugin and follow the instruction properly, you upgrading will not installed properly.
So how to solve this?
Don’t delete anything from your wp-content folder, unless you never upgrade from 2.0 to higher. You’ll find out that your blog not workable. I have to deactivate back all the plugin and re-upload all my wp-content folder. Once that done re-activate my plugin.
I had not heard this problem with WP Super Cache or the combination of that plugin and WordPress Automatic Upgrade, maybe someone will share there experience.
P.S.
Despite the recent fix, WordPress still not able the increase WordPress security against spammer. In the last 24 hours I already received close 50 spam comments. This amount consider small for a small website but I surely don’t want to end up with so many comment on mesothiloma.
