This week I am looking into marketing strategies for blog.
To this point I am making an assumption that “good quality content” had been created and posted at your blog. We also have to agreed on one thing that, one can create “a good quality content” based on one own standard but the real judgment call on what constitute as ” a good quality content” will be fall on the view of the readers since one create content not for themself but for the readers. Therefore the reader will decide what content should go “viral”
The definition of “viral marketing” best describe by Lain McDonald, vice president and creative director for chiefmarketer.com
“On the Internet, viral marketing is any marketing technique that induces Web sites or users to pass on a marketing message to other sites or users, creating potentially exponential growth in the message’s visibility and effect.â€
While some consider the key to viral content is luck, many times it’s the result of good planning, research, and good understanding of “the concept of viral marketing”.
I can’t teach you how to create a viral content that will go viral because there are so many ways that it happens and not just confine to text form but also audio and video. However you may find the following list usefull.
1. Don’t make you viral content feel like viral content.
Digg had put a bury button just below every story. Digg’s editors are hoping that more people will “bury” more material they want Digg to be view as platform for good content instead marketing content.
2. Choose your target market properly or focus on your group only.
By understanding your viewers’ desires and motivations you will certainly one step closer to being able to use viral as a tangible form of media that delivers results.
3. Leverage Social Media Marketing.
If a piece of content gets a ton of up votes at any social media marketing network (e.g. stumbleupon, digg, reddit and so on), you can feel a little more confident about submitting it to the other social voting sites. In marketing this is what we call “Test Market”. Test market had been widely practice in marketing to test the level of consumer acceptance toward a particular product or products. So you can also do the same thing here. If it’s good acceptance at one site than try another one.
4. Mix or combine between email marketing and mini site marketing.
You may be received a few email occasionaly to digg, to stumble or to favorites, this will be a good a start for an email marketing.
You may need to mix or combine both email marketing and mini site marketing. You can read further here to get more understanding why it’s better to use mini site than you own domain and why you should not put your viral marketing at your own domain.
5. Spend time analyze the success of others.
Look at successful viral marketing campaign, analyze and learn from them.
