How To Use Other People Money (“OPM”) Or Other People Resources (“OPR”) To Enhance Your Blog.

by Hamdani Amin on August 18, 2008

I read a lot of Robert Kiyosaki books.  His approach is simple and down to earth (in my opinion, of course).  The basic concept OPM/OPR is simple, borrowing from his definition:You (as an individual or business entity) acquire or build income-producing assets (in this case your website/-)- by using capital (tangible or in what so ever form – , article, flipping) from sources other than your own.

What form of OPR that widely used in marketing your blog?

Jeremiah at had prepared a complete list of Many Form Of Web Marketing For 2008.  If you think some of the terms used were too technical than you may wants to take a look at ideas on how to get more traffic to your blog.  All are relevant.  However, some carried more weight as compared to the others.  Based on Jeremiah list, today I will look what are the most important ones at this stage and what are the issues related to it.

Which ones carry more weight than the others?

1.   Brand

1.1  Sponsorship and Cross Branding

I think the method of promoting your brand with the right audience in which the property is rewarded for integrating your brand is a very potent strategy . This can occur on content sites, shows, media properties, , podcasts, and just about everything else.

Guest Posting As The Ultimate Form Of Brand Extension.

This ideas had been highly supported and suggested by bloggers community.  John Chow openly invite guest post at his websites.  Blogger like Darren Rowse, Chris G, ysdata and Ben Minson wrote about the important of having guest post to attract readership to your blog.

I find this is a very good example of the use of OPR in blogging.

But What Are The Rules And Ethics For Guest Posting?

Darren Rowse wrote the do and don’t from bloggers accommodating the visitor.  Chris G wrote the opposite perspective, from the guest blogger itself.  Both have valid arguments.  I can summaries their both perspective as follows:

  1. Know you niche.  Pick you blog strategically. Obviously blogs with large readerships are good – but a smaller blog with more relevant readership would be more effective than a large one with little relevance. In short, write for the audience.
  2. Defined times. It can be difficult finding the extra time, something has to give. What are you NOT going to do while you are writing guest posts?
  3. Don’t burn yourself out.  One simple thing to avoid this, Preparation.  There is no point of giving the best content at some else website while you didn’t do anything for your own blog.  The purpose of guest blogging is co-branding.  Use other people website to get subscriber at your websites.
  4. Repeat Post.  If you have a guest post and at the same times you yourself became a guess post, then both play an important roles to maintain readership relationship at your website.  I think since your reader already used to your style while accommodating new style (from your guest poster) than it is best to mix the post regularly between you and your guest post.

So today I would like to leave you with two question:

  1. Have you tried guest posting on other people’s blogs? What did you learn?
  2. Have you tried guest post on your blog? What did you learn?
