How Long Before I Can See My First Traffic.

The very moment you click publish at your wordpress dashboard, the joy of creation overwhelming. Previously I wrote about how long before I can see my blog start making money. While it is not inclusive (I reiterate) it took at least 6 months to 2 full years. It could also take longer if you don’t have traffic.
Adsense income is based on contextual ad. The more traffic you had the more income you had. So if you had just started you blog, how would get you first traffic.
1. Tell your friend.
The easiest ways is to tell your friend. I believe everyone should already have at least 25 people in their contact list. Post a shout at your friendster, facebook, yuwie, twitter and other social networking website. Text them, IM them, in short get the word out.
2. Install All SEO package and Google XML Sitemap plugin.

Many people that I had visited their weblog forget the small detail that will help their weblog appear high at the search engine. Important thing like weblog title, description and keyword were not prepare accordingly. This is the very essential thing to get your weblog crawl by search spider. 3. Install the Follow All wordpress plugin
One way to get free traffic, is networking with others fellow blogger. But 99 percent of all audience perhaps blogger that went to our blog will not comment anything (I understand that because I only received ping back so far). Event the 1 percent who wants to comment will deter making any comments when they see that your meta tag instruct the search spider not to follow the link.
So what does this mean. every time your received comment one of the information is website. But if tag No Follow on then the spider will stop at your website but will not go to (follow) all the website listed at your website. Plus if you have a lot of pagelink to your website, it also push your webblog page ranking.
4. Install Blogrush
Install Blogrush. BlogRush is a “Cooperative Syndication Network.” It’s a network of blogs that run a small “widget” on their pages. Each time this widget is loaded it will contain 5 clickable headlines which are the blog post titles to other users’ posts. Clicking on any of these links will open a new browser window and load the blog and full post.
Users earn “syndication credits” based on each time their blog loads the widget as well as each time any of their referrals (users that signup after clicking the “add your blog posts” link on the widget) loads the widget. They also earn additional credit based on all the activity through 10 generations of referrals. 1 Syndication Credit equal to having one of their recent blog post titles served inside the widget on another member’s blog.
The result in 30 minutes my headlines already featured in 2 of their network and start bringing traffic.
5. Make full use of the technorati tag.
I made the most of Technorati tags. I discovered a WordPress plugin called SimpleTags that made the job a whole lot easier after reading Darren Rowse blog post.
Like him, I too found that by tagging my post effectively they were getting a lot more attention then their untagged counterparts, and as an added advantage I was getting focused, quality traffic to the site!
6. Make full use of the existing of social networking website.
A proper use of social networking can increase traffic to your website. It’s up to you to choose either stumbleupon, diggs or delicious. Each have their own advantage as compared to others. Some will create a quality traffic while some only create a short fame.
7. Enable Trackback for all you blog post.
All post are not created equal. Some post have a lot of reader some none. Why not while your reader find it interesting to read you post, let them trackback to you. I got just one trackback from my post about Narnia.mobi, since then I received a steady traffic from their websites.
8. Allocate time to market your website.
Creating a blog is a small step. The first step actually. A blog only grow if you nurture it. Put aside time to market it. Everyday I commit at least 5 to 10 minutes to read at least one post and put my view via comment. Every twice a day, I put aside 30 minutes to market my website. I’ll digg it, stumble it, share it, reddit it anything that I can thought off. Trust me it worth it.
So what the result?
Using this techniques I notice an increase in absolute unique visitor by 5% in the last 10 days of August as compared to the last 10 days in July. But here is the good part, my returning visitor had increase by almost 36% with average time spent on site increase to 90%. So I guess I am on the right direction.
