Dot.com was meant for commercial, dot.net meant for networking provider service and dot.org meant for non-profit organisation. Well at least that was the initial idea for top level domain (“TLD”) name extension. But as good name became harder to get, not to mentioned the increasing number of cybersquatter, even dot.mobi were used for unintended purpose.
The current fiasco of domain name extension I think just to make ICANN busy and to fill-up their pocket.
What on earth we need dot.info for? What information that so valuable we need to put under a dot.info? Now dot.name? Since more people rather take dot.com as their personal domain name to represent their name or personality that dilute the purpose of having dot.name. Added to that dot.me, if you want to be so personal, I think.
We had enough of TLD meant for each country issued by each country authority. So do we really need dot.us, dot.euro even dot.asia. Why limit the possibilites to certain corner of the world? Why create limitation? Is ICANN interfere with the country authority just because their the so call “BIG GUN”. Thou shall consult us, thing.
Have your get your dot.tk for free. I sure does. I take three because it’s free. No thats’ funny. If your create a domain name extension, the end to end management of that extension will be bourne by the introducer. That spell money, time and expertise. Not to mentioned the marketing effort. For marketing gig, given free away domain name, I should congratulate that company. But getting fish credit for exchange for domain name that absurd. Maybe because dot.tk stand for the island Tikeloa. But in the long run, I think the company should operate like Global Domain International, the registra of dot.ws. No, dot.ws does not meant for Western Samoa (actually may be it did) but for “web site”.
I think too much choice had confused us. To some extent boring. Added to that domain rush confusion, possible WIPO (World Intelectual Property Organisation), can we keep-up with “singular” or “plural” variation of our domain name, or should we buy all.
I tell you what I am going to do?
I’ll buy a domain that best serves my purpose, regardless wheather it “singular” or “plural”. So what if people takes the variation in the form of “singular” or “plural”, that free advertising for me. I’ll take action only if it damaging. If we associate blog as fresh content and content is information, then world wide web is full of information. Blog just one of it. So should were associate blog with dot.info. Now I cant’s imagine that.
How I am going to threat other domain name extension?
I don’t care. If they think they can make money using my domain name variation, that good faith. If they became so popular maybe I piggy back on their success.
How about possible misspelling domain name variation?
Oh yes, those advice. Take the possible domain name variation arise from mispelling and etc. Again I don’t care. That why we have marketing plan for our domain.
I think I wake-up at the wrong side of the bed today.
Why do I sound so gruntled today? Have you bean to New.net, I think they have so much many choices that even if I want to be porn producer I can subcribe to dot.xxx. Not to mentioned dot.llc, dot.shop and so many dot.
