When people start asking me how long before I can see my blog start making money, I know the person not just asking about how much time needed to put into a blog but also he also actually asking what kind level of persistence is require is needed before you can see some result coming in. Well I’ll to decide that based on other people experience.
Steve Pavlina, started his weblog in Oct, 2004 by April 2005 (that would be 6 months) he started making about $4.12 per day. His total post about 134 to 135 post ( as of April 2005). He blog almost everyday sometimes twice a day. By October 2006, he is making about $1,000 per day that would be after a full two year of blogging.
Netmark started his blog web500.us in August 2007, in March 2008 he already make about $120 per month, that would be translated to $4.00 per day. How much visitor he had per day, 12,000 visitor per month.
Carl Ocab started his blog about making money online on Febuary, 2007. He tried many blog topic before stick to one topic. One year later he is making at least $800 per month from his blog. But not entirely from his blog post, but from his advertising slot.
Alborz is behind a car blog here in Australia – a blog that has enabled him to grow his blog to a point where it’s been valued at over $5 million – have a partnership with a major media company, take on investors and more. It’s pretty impressive since he only started blogging in 2006!
So exactly how long before you can see any money at your blog?
If you read through all the experience mentioned above, based on the experience above between 6 months and full 2 years. That arbitrary range.
I started this blog about 6 month already, but only take a full attention in June. Yes the adsense income started to come but only in a few cent. However the income started to come only after I take a serious attention to my blog.
If I can summarize the experience from the successful blogger then I think it should be:
- Find a niche topic to start. Experience with a few topic and stick with the topic that make the most traffic and build that blog like there is no tomorrow. Alborz started with three blog topic but only stick to car advice being the most blog that generate the most traffic
- Be persistence and focus. Once you decide to do it then do it. Don’t put it half way. I know because I had put this blog half way for almost 18 months. One good example is Dr Kim. Set a time limit every day.
- Read this blog post about how to build your blog into a business. I consider this as a cheat sheet to marketing your blog is 50/50 split. Adsense income is a traffic based income. No traffic no income.
- Start networking. Being a new blogger, nobody know yet unless it’s so happen that you blog carries a lot of missed traffic like mine. Use stumbleupon, digg, reddit and all those social bookmarking website you can get
